Specifications
1. The Contractor shall check all the dimensions, levels, and the location of services before commencing work. The Designer will take no responsibility for damage to any of these. 2. Plants shown on the plantlist with an * are existing plants to be retained.
3. Site clearance and preparation. All perennial weeds shall be eradicated before any planting. Leveling shall be carried out before planting. All lawn areas should have a minimum of 100 mm. top soil, and all areas to be planted at least 300 mm top soil except the areas for plants no. 12. Any construction and paving should preferable be carried out before any planting takes place. Before any backfilling, the existing soil should be broken up, or disturbed. At planted areas the soil should be deep ripped at minimum 500 mm. deep and at 1 m. intervals.
4. Any areas currently in lawn to be made into gardens have to be sprayed with Glyphosate at least three weeks prior to cultivation, and be repeated if necessary.
5. Garden preparation : Before planting, all gardens to be planted/replanted should be composted with good, clean, quality compost or manure to the rate of 1 m3.p. 25 m2. gardens and worked in at least 200 mm. deep, preferable by rotaryhoeing. Any hard layers in the soil should be broken.
6. Planting : For planting purposes a hole need tofgbe excavated at twice the size of the root ball, and after planting be filled with a mixture of soil and compost to the ratio of 2:1. Planting of woody plants should preferable be carried out from May to September.
All other plants could be planted year round except from November to February. 7. Fertilising : After planting the following fertilisers should be applied:
A: Acid fertiliser to the rate of 50 gr. per m2 for the following plants; Hydrangea blue. To be repeated each year in April and September.
B: An all purpose slow release fertiliser such as Nitrophoska Blue for all other plants 50 gr. per m2 to be repeated each year in September. All fertilisers should be raked in.
8. Mulching : After planting and irrigating the borders should be mulched with a good clean mulch such as, fine bark or peastraw to the rate of 1 m3 per 25 m2 gardens
9. Levels: All soil levels of the gardens shall be below any surrounding kerbs or hard surfaces.
10. Irrigation. It is most important that the new plants will be irrigated correctly especially the first year. At least 25 mm. of water should be supplied at each time during long dry periods.
11. All work shall be carried out in accordance with established good Horticultural practices, any relevant laws, Council bylaws, New Zealand Standards, and the New Zealand Health and Safety in Employment Act.
